What Should I Bring?

Documenting Your Financial Circumstances

At the Law Offices of Serpe, Dizonno & Associates, our bankruptcy attorneys will analyze your situation and develop a strategy for resolving your financial problems. To do that, we need all the details. The following documents will allow us to know exactly where you stand today so we can develop a plan for a better tomorrow.

1. Tax returns from at least for the most recent year. We prefer seeing three years of tax returns, including W2s and 1099s.

2. Proof of income for the past six months for both you and your spouse. This may include pay stubs for all jobs, unemployment compensation statement, disability income statement, Social Security benefit information, a pension statement, and proof of alimony or other support you have received.

3. Bank and financial account statements for every open savings, checking and investment account, including 401(k) plans, other retirement accounts and college savings plans.

4. Documents from any prior bankruptcy: There are limits on how frequently you can file for bankruptcy.

5. Documents from any lawsuit against you: Including the case number and where it was filed.

6. The last two bills from every creditor and any other correspondence from them.

7. A list of your monthly expenses: A complete list of what you pay out each month for your rent or mortgage, food, clothing, taxes, insurance, utilities, tuition, car loans, entertainment, charitable contributions, child support, spousal support, and money given to support other family members.

8. Real estate documents: Deeds and homeowners insurance as well as mortgage documents and home equity loans on any property you own

9. Mortgages, home equity loans: Bring in any and all documents related to the property you own, from cars and trucks to real estate.

10. Vehicle ownership documents: Including the title to the vehicle, the loan documents and/or payoff statement

11. Credit reports: These can help us learn if we are missing any other documentation.
